![]() ![]() It doesn’t lose marks but it’s my pet peeve. Do not go to 7 or 8 decimal places like many students do. Two decimal places is specific enough for descriptive calculations. If you have ordinal data, therefore, use IQR. However, IA examiners look for IQR for ordinal data. * The IB’s official website on MyIB says median and range is best for ordinal data. It’s also recommended to put them in a clearly labelled table since this is common practice in psychology. There’s no need to explain how or why you chose the descriptive stats to use or the level of measurement of your data. Median with interval/ratio data with outliers = interquartile range.Your measure of dispersion will depend on the average you calculated above and your type of data. I only present materials like this post after they’ve tried it for themselves. The media n is the middle value (or midpoint) after all the data points have. It is also known as ‘arithmetic mean’, rather than ‘geometric mean’. ![]() The mean is adding up all the data points and dividing the sum by the number of data points (or total number of numbers). Teaching Tip: I have students do all this by themselves first. Mean, median and mode are different types of averages from a data set.
